Adult Swim's Top New Show of This Year Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
