Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:

  • Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the title. But, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 players are mad.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another details everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
