The British tennis star achieved the biggest victory of his career by rebounding from a early deficit to defeat top-ranked player Carlos Alcaraz in three hard-fought sets in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had earlier beaten Alcaraz on two occasions, this victory signifies Norrie's first ever victory over a reigning world number one.

"Massive. Extremely important for me," said Norrie, who joins as the latest British man in the record books to overcome a top-ranked player. "Returning from a physical setback last year, I fell in the first round of qualifying rounds here. I just aimed to enjoy my tennis in the second half of the year. To achieve a win like this, it's the biggest success of my career, my first win over the top player and arguably the strongest athlete in the world right now."

The British player, ranked 31st globally, also stopped Alcaraz's impressive run of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive Masters 1000 victories, which marked the top run of results in the Spaniard's young career.

Alcaraz appeared to be advancing smoothly towards victory in the beginning as he eased through the opening set. However, Norrie steadily worked himself into contention by delivering with sharper placement and pulling the Spanish opponent into extended, grueling rallies. His unceasing steadiness and dependability gradually left its mark.

For much of the match, the world number one performed well on serve but he found it challenging to find his timing on his baseline shots. The young star seemed notably uncomfortable executing his primary weapon, which has been the best shot in the sport for a large part of this year, producing 29 forehand miscues and a total of 54 errors. Across the net, the British player gave his opponent very few errors, keeping up his consistency, athleticism and penetration throughout while serving efficiently and choosing his moments to move into the court and strike effectively.

Following dealing for a long time due to a serious arm issue and struggles with his form, Norrie dropped as low as No 91 this year. Alcaraz, despite his extraordinary success, is yet to master how to deliver his top form in indoor conditions.
