Zelenskyy Warns Country's Existence Relies on Partners
Kyiv's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a recent interview that Ukraine's existence depended on receiving more funds from allies.
“I hope, God bless, we will get this decision,” he told reporters. Otherwise, “It will be necessary to seek an alternative, it concerns our survival. For this reason we need it urgently. We rely on partners.”
EU Commission Advocates €140bn Compensation Funding
The European Commission continues to aim to persuade participating countries – including Belgium, which continues to bloc the plan amid legal fears – to move ahead on a €140 billion reparations loan using frozen Russian assets.
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen emphasized today that it would be “the optimal method to sustain Kyiv's military and its economy.”
Resolution Postponed Till December Meeting
A final decision on the matter has been postponed until the EU leaders’s summit in the last month, as the financial support required early next year.
Discussions Coincide with Corruption Scandal in Kyiv
But these discussions are happening during a tricky moment for Kyiv, as Zelenskyy was forced to contain rising popular anger in the country over a corruption scandal in the power industry, dismissing several officials allegedly involved in involvement in a extensive corruption network.
Danish finance leader Stephanie Lose was questioned on her reaction to the scandal, and affirmed that there was determination to continue supporting the Ukrainian people.
“Naturally, The country will have to continuously work with reforms, strengthening every sector of the nation [and] that also applies to anti-corruption … but there shouldn’t be any doubt that Europe stands firmly with Kyiv,” she said.
