Iran Reports Strike on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area in the area of the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is unclear and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far struck sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
