New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. And again, that puts my mind at ease, that he feels like that and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities released surveillance images earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims were reported.

The attack took place just after 2am on Sunday morning near Madison Square Garden and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
