Soccer Analyst Sutton Takes On Artist Olly Murs in Top Flight Predictions

Arsenal's 10-game winning run came to an end by Sunderland prior to the global hiatus, but can the English top division leaders recover against local foes Tottenham this weekend?

"{I feel like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs manager Thomas Frank will have a plan for this match," stated soccer expert Chris Sutton.

"Frank will attempt to neutralize Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating finest this season - but Mikel Arteta's team usually still find a way to win."

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against artificial intelligence, readers and a range of special visitors.

For the twelfth round, he faces performer Olly Murs, who is a United supporter.

Murs' new record, the new release, is out on the weekend.

Football and Parenting Life

Olly is a skilled footballer as well as a accomplished singer and has been a featured player of several Soccer Aid games over time - but he is not planning a professional return as a footballer.

"{I recently played in a benefit match the other night for a friend of mine," he explained. "My team was trailing 3-1 when I came off in the 60th minute, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you will!

"I continue to love football, but I hurt my knee a few years ago and it even now isn't where I want it to be. I hope I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too dangerous for me in my profession to do it seriously again.

"Additionally I am forty-one now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am preparing for the time that my daughter or son chooses to play instead."

Murs and his wife his partner have a young family, their daughter and their son, and he is prepared to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming their coach.

"I won't push football on our children but I've previously told Amelia that if they happen to get the bug for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will probably be managing their weekend football team," he added.

"I observed my nephews play a lot, and I truly got into it, and I clearly owned a football club for a period too.

"My dad did it with us when I was a child, which is likely where I inherited it. He managed our team for two or three seasons and had a wonderful time with it. That could be the next step for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

The Blues might have to wait a bit longer for Cole Palmer's return from injury but their attack is now more potent with Pedro and Delap both back fit.

In my opinion this game will be fairly close, however. The Clarets are well organised and their only home defeats so far have been against the Reds and Arsenal.

This smells of a 1-1 tie to me, but I am actually going to choose the London side to edge it for what would be their third league win in a row.

Sutton's forecast: 1-2

Olly's pick: Chelsea will be superior. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

Bournemouth have lost their previous couple games - albeit both of them were on the road - but they got thoroughly beaten by Aston Villa last time out which shocked me.

In contrast, West Ham secured back-to-back victories before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they do look competitive again.

West Ham's only away win this season came at Nottingham Forest in August, when their boss Nuno Espirito Santo was previously Forest manager.

Therefore, what on earth do I predict here - will it be West Ham extending their streak under their manager, or the home side responding?

I will choose Bournemouth, because I think what happened against Aston Villa was a blip.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

The guest's prediction: The home team are doing well but West Ham have improved under Nuno. 2-2

AI's pick: 1-1

The Bees were seen as one of the favourites for the drop before the campaign began, but they have surprised a few people under their manager and are in good form with three in their last four matches.

My son told me to get Brentford forward Thiago in my Fantasy Football squad a few weeks back and, unfortunately, I didn't listen.

The forward will likely find the net again on Saturday but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or support Brentford at Brighton's ground.

The Bees have not had great fortune on the road this term, and the Seagulls are consistently strong at their stadium. The visitors will try to attack on the break but I feel the home manager's team pose much more of a threat.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

The singer's prediction: This could be a match where you think there is going to be a many scores but it in reality proves to be rather tight. 1-1

The computer's prediction: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a massive fixture for Fulham, who have lost five of their past six games.

They have have plenty of talent in their team but it still seems like they could be sucked into a relegation battle.

As for the Black Cats, indeed they are the unexpected success of the Premier League campaign so far.

The away side's performance in the 2-2 tie with the Gunners last time out was superb. We have not witnessed anyone else disrupt the North London side like that this term, and Sunderland were fully competitive for them.

The logical choice would be to back the Black Cats here, because they are obviously able of disrupting Fulham up too and, the last time they were in this part of London, they defeated Chelsea at the close of last month.

But I am not choose that. Instead, I truly need to continue going against Sunderland with my forecasts. I am taking a lot of responsibility for their good outcomes because they evidently enjoy to defy my predictions.

Considering the home side's home form, the only side they have lost to is the league leaders. Their manager's team will be extremely desperate for a good result, so I am going to predict they will pick up three points.

The expert's prediction: 1-0

Olly's prediction: I'm aware Sunderland are performing strongly and also that the hosts are on a bad streak... but Fulham have still been respectable at Craven Cottage this season. 2-0

The algorithm's prediction: 2-0

It is a hard one to call. Liverpool have lost seven of their past 10 games in every tournament, but might they be one of the teams who profit from the {international break|
