The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.

This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will love its presence.

But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I still saved it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some changes and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
