The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
